well same old same old here at the baghdad resort and spa. we move barriers around, hand out gas, and process grant applications. we also had another recruitment for the iraqi army, iraqi police, and the “concerned local citizens” AKA militia. they guard mosques and hopefully dime out any of cobra commander’s minions. the only real excitement is the office politics and retarded decisions that are made. we had a bradley break down in sector. so we sat out there for hours. the mechanics came out and looked at it and said that we needed a truck to load it onto. so we had to wait for a truck to come from falcon to load it onto. Fun fun fun.

Lately I have been walking up and down the streets handing out and collecting applications for the grants for businesses. It turns into a pain in the butt because they know they can get free money so everyone is pretty hyped up about it. But all we are doing is paperwork that has to be given to the Iraqi government so they can decide. We are also trying to bolster the local city council but they act like children and try to approve their buddies. What a war huh?

I am still tearing through books. I just read heart of the matter by graham greene. Excellent book. It is about this career cop in some anonymous british colony in Africa during wwii. He feels no love for his wife but responsibility for her happiness. Then he falls in love with a 19 year old widow. So what is he to do when he has two women he must keep happy? Oh and he is also burdened by his Catholicism, so that’s a nice twist. It is one of the books that I read that I can’t even begin to imagine how someone sat down and put these words onto paper. Of course I also read the testament by john grisham which wasn’t nearly as good. Druggie lawyer has to find missionary in jungles of brazil to tell her she just inherited 11 billion dollars and in turn discovers a reason to start over. Literary equivalent of weekend movies on tnt. Feel good and light.

So things keep plodding along. i also added some more photos onto the second pics page.
